The first in a new series of Fluidnation playlists is now available on the awesome TIDAL – the first High Fidelity music streaming service with High Definition music videos and Curated Editorial.
Fluidnation will present some of the best new chill/electronica/ambient and downtempo tunes around, as well as revisiting some classics that still sound as fresh now as they did when they were first released – for those that missed them first time around.
This month we hear superb tracks from two of the most gifted artists around; Jon Hopkins and Olafur Arnalds. Jon’s here with a gorgeous track (“A Drifting Up”) from his Insides album. Jon also appears with King Creosote on “Starboard Home”, a track from their Mercury Prize nominated album Diamond Mine. Olafur contributes the spellbinding “Only The Winds” from the wonderful album For Now I Am Winter.
Classics come in the form of tracks from Nightmares On Wax, Bent, The Cinematic Orchestra, Air, Brian Eno, Fragile State, Goldfrapp and Husky Rescue.
Special mention goes to the stunning, stunning track, “Heaven”, from UNKLE & The Heritage Orchestra, which features the vocals of the hugely talented singer-songwriter, Gavin Clark, who tragically died in February. I urge you to listen to his work, particularly with UNKLE, but also his wonderful album with Sunhouse in the 1990’s, Crazy On The Weekend. He will be hugely missed. — Ben Mynott is a DJ, producer, music consultant, album compiler and broadcaster all in one.
